Plan a golf simulator that fits your room

A free 3D planner for home golf simulators: measure the room, place real gear, see whether a full swing fits, and price every part across retailers before you spend a dollar.

Start with the room

Type the width, depth and ceiling, your height and which side you play from. The builder draws the room in 3D, puts a golfer at the tee and answers the one question first: does it fit? Ceiling, room behind you, room beside you and ball to screen are each checked against what a real swing needs.

Pick real parts, priced across retailers

Enclosures, impact screens and nets, mats, launch monitors, projectors, PCs and software from the makers people actually buy, each with live prices from up to 17 retailers. Every part is placed in your room and checked: a projector that cannot throw the distance, a screen wider than the enclosure, a launch monitor without its minimum distance all show up before you buy.

Walk around it in 3D, print the 2D plan with every measurement, email yourself the gear list, or publish the bay to the community gallery when it is built.

Golf simulator room questions

How high does a ceiling need to be for a golf simulator?
Measure the club, not the golfer. On a full swing a 5 ft 9 in golfer's club head reaches about 8 ft 2 in over the floor, so a ceiling of 8 ft 8 in or more swings a driver freely; under that the builder marks the room tight and under the apex it says no. Taller golfers, a thick mat or a raised floor all push the number up. Carl's Place and SIG publish 8 ft 6 in as the bare minimum and 9 ft as recommended, and the builder agrees. Plan Your Space.
How much room do I need behind the ball and to the sides?
The club swings back about 0.87 times your height behind you and the same distance toward the wall at your back, so the builder wants about 7 ft from the ball to the back wall and 7 ft to the wall behind you, scaled to your height, and calls anything under the club's reach plus 3 in a hard no. The far side of the ball needs about 3 ft. A right hander and a left hander need the mirror image, so the builder asks which side you play from.
How far should the ball be from the impact screen?
About 10 ft. Under 8 ft the ball comes back at you and most launch monitors cannot read the flight; over 12 ft the picture shrinks and camera units lose accuracy. The builder's hitting distance slider defaults to 10 ft and warns either side.
How far off the wall does an impact screen hang?
A screen on a bare wall needs 14 in to flex back on impact; an enclosure frame keeps its own 12 in. The builder adds that gap to the room depth it needs, so a 12 ft deep room is not 12 ft of play. Enclosure and Screen.
What does a home golf simulator cost?
A working build starts around $5,000 with a photometric launch monitor, a net or a basic screen and a mat, runs $10,000 to $15,000 for an enclosure, a short-throw projector and a gaming PC, and $25,000 and up for a premium launch monitor and a finished room. The builder shows live prices from 17 retailers for every part and a running total against the budget you type. Set Your Budget.
Which launch monitor fits my room?
Camera units (SkyTrak, Bushnell Launch Pro, Uneekor, Foresight) sit beside or above the ball and work in short rooms; radar units (Garmin, Mevo+, Trackman) sit 6 to 8 ft behind the ball and want a deeper room and a longer ball flight. The builder places each one where its maker says and warns when the room is too short for it. Launch Monitor.
Can I build a golf simulator in a garage with a car in it?
Often, with a net or a retractable screen and a mat you roll up. The builder draws garage doors, their rail hardware and parked vehicles, keeps the projector beam clear of the door track and shows what the car blocks.
Do I need a projector?
Not with a net: a net has no picture to throw, so the builder marks the projector step "not needed" and shows your shots on a TV or monitor instead. With an impact screen, a short-throw projector mounted behind the golfer fills the screen without a shadow; the builder checks the throw distance against your room and the brightness against your screen. Projector.
Is the builder free, and do I need an account?
Free, no account. Your build saves in your browser as you go. A free account lets you save it to your profile, email it to yourself, publish it to the community gallery and open it on another device.
What do real member bays look like?
The Sim Setups gallery holds published member bays with the room size, every part, what it cost and photos. Any of them opens in the builder as a starting point for your own room. Sim Setups.
