About 9 to 11 feet back works well, roughly the length of a standard hitting strip. This gives plenty of clearance even when the impact screen frame or mounting supports sit a few feet in front of the hitting area, as with a Protee launch monitor mounted 3 feet ahead of the tee. Enclosure depth and hitting mat length are the main limiting factors.
