Question 1

Which impact screen is quieter for a garage sim room under a bedroom?

Accepted Answer

The Indoor Golf Shop premium screen and enclosure has been reported as relatively quiet and durable even with a bedroom directly above the garage bay. Ball impact noise on that screen was noticeably quieter than driver swing noise through the floor, so screen choice alone will not fully solve noise if impact and swing sound both carry upward; soundproofing the ceiling or adding foam paneling helps address the rest.

Question 2

What is the best way to mount a golf impact screen, zip ties or bungees?

Accepted Answer

Use a mix of both. Bungees in the corners with zip ties along the rest of the frame has given good results, since straight zip ties alone were breaking every couple of days. The more give and flex the screen can have, the longer it lasts, so tensioning only at the top rather than pulling it tight all around also extends screen life. A custom setup using angled irons with a bungee and zip tie mix, plus a second layer of netting behind the main screen, is another way to add durability.

Question 3

How do I show the SQUARE hitting zone on screen while using GSPro?

Accepted Answer

There is no built in way to display the SQUARE hitting zone inside GSPro, since the zone image only exists in the SQUARE software and only one program can connect to the launch monitor at a time. Workarounds include an overhead projector or a focused spotlight shining down on the correct spot, turning on the ready beep for audio confirmation, and placing a reference ball at the proper distance to the side of the SQUARE as a visual aid. A YouTube hack called SQUARE VISION may also work if you are willing to set it up yourself.

Question 4

How to fix Square launch monitor connecting to laptop but not reaching GSPro on host PC?

Accepted Answer

Check the firewall on the host PC first. A common cause is the connection between the Square connector and GSPro being blocked, which you can confirm by pinging the correct IP and port from Command Prompt and manually opening that connection if it is blocked. Also verify the Bluetooth link between the laptop running the Square connector and the launch monitor itself, since a weak Bluetooth signal or outdated firmware can cause the same symptom even when the monitor reads fine on a phone app.

Question 5

What core components do I need to build a golf simulator setup?

Accepted Answer

You need a screen, projector, frame, turf, hitting strip, and a PC to run the simulation software. You can start cheaper by skipping the screen and projector and hitting into a net while watching ball flight on a TV instead. A hitting strip is worth investing in since it takes the most wear. A SIGPRO Softy hitting strip paired with a SIGPRO 12 enclosure from Shop Indoor Golf has been reported as easy to set up and reliable, and Carl's Place is another option people have had good results with.

Question 6

Why does the Square golf launch monitor's OpenAPI connector randomly crash?

Accepted Answer

A weak Bluetooth connection between the PC and the launch monitor is the usual suspect. The common fix is running a USB extension cable from the PC closer to the unit and adding a Bluetooth dongle at that closer point, since a dedicated dongle often gives a stronger, more stable signal than the PC's built in Bluetooth. Windows error logs pointing to a Square DLL crash can also indicate a background conflict worth reporting to Square support.
